Did we really need that tax cut ?

The past month saw a widespread public unrest as oil prices went to their highest levels. People across India criticized the government and governmental institutions for this. Widespread protest took place across the country including a National Bandh on October 4, forcing the central government to reduce taxes and duties on petroleum products. This creates a large loss of revenue for the government at this point and the economy is not performing well. At these instances, is the government putting itself in a worse position? Or will it be able to adjust the same from the increased taxation in other productive sectors?
Can the government’s decision be seen as a political stunt to satisfy the people ahead of the state and national elections? If the government begins to react like this instead of forming economic policies won’t it have to give in for all of people’s growing demand. And as human wants are infinity will this be a sustainable approach?
We will see soon😀

Sabarimala Temple: Are God's Sexist?

For the past few weeks Indian newspapers are flooded with debates on the exclusion of women from religious activities and locations. In a landmark judgement on September 28,2018 the Supreme Court  of India paved way for the entry of women of all age groups to the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala. This has bought about a new debate about how religion discriminates against women. Many Hindu temples prohibit the entry of  menstruating women while many Sunni Muslims do  not allow entry of women in their mosques. This debate has also opened discussion of allowing Christian and Parsi women being allowed to perform religious ceremonies formerly performed only by men.

Opening of the Sabarimala Temple has brought about large amount of mass violence in the southern state of Kerala, where I sit while writing this. This violence is largely promoted by political motives of the RSS and BJP. The BJP which has very low support in Kerala is playing violent politics with the help of other religious organizations. Yesterday we all witnessed the mass violence infront of the Sabarimala Temple in our television screens. This sort of violence should never have occurred on the grounds of a sacred Temple like Sabarimala, a true devotee would never do something like that. What do you think about religious institutions barring women entry? Would you view it as judicial interference within a religious boundary or a societal injustice that needs to be broken down. Tell me in commentsection below

Feminichikal

Feminichikal

Big thumbs up for these strong women of mollywood. And shame on those who keep blaming them. When Bollywood has  dropped Huge Big budget projects, mollywood still hasn't taken any action against the accused. Instead they have put all the blame on those who came in support of the victim and have branded them feminichi. Well I'm proud to be a feminist and am in support of the feminichis

A Letter To The President of United States of America

Dear President Donald Trump,
I am an Indian high school student who has aspired to study in the best universities of your country. As a first step to fulfil by long desire, I took the ACT exam in September 2018. ACT Test was conducted in online mode for international students by the the American organisation which conducted the test. This was said to be a measure to control cheating on the test. However,  the ACT charged 150$ per student and gave each student the worst exam experience ever. Personally, I had 4 system failures, multiple configuration errors and to top on all that the exam was conducted in a shabby manner. The technical staff were talking and making a racquet in the exam room. The exam was not conducted in around 31 countries due to such errors. For people like me who had to take the test in the these miserable conditions , our scores were far below the average. I got 5 scores lower than what I had got on multiple practice tests. The ACT has still not responded to any of my complaints. I believe this organisation is degrading the international reputation of a country like USA. It denies international students the opportunity to study in the world's best universities located in your country.

Yours sincerely,
Charu Veluthoor
